Painting 88 XR7 side molding SEM trim black/removing factory paint January 07, 2017, 03:44:05 PM So I have found a NOS driver's door molding for an 88 XR7 (thank you major metro area). The issue is that it is white. I'm assuming the molding is just a regular 87-88 Thunderbird/Cougar molding painted white by the factory correct? If so I should be able to just paint it with SEM trim black and it should match the regular 87-88 side moldings. Unless anyone has a way to get the factory paint off without damaging the rubber underneath. Quote Selected

The front and back bolt-on moldings were molded in color for sure. But the moldings between the doors...can't remember. Quote Selected

I'm attempting to restore it. If the process works I'll be posting a how to process. Quote Selected
