AOD troubles

I finally got around to testing the tranny in my 5.0 TC, and with the rear on stands j can get reverse but no forward gears.  The tranny came from Beau's sport and he said it drove but now I'm at a loss and not sure if I missed something or what the deal is.  Really needing help here.  Thanks

The Sport made a 35 mile drive home when i bought it, didn't seem to have any issues then, but of course, that WAS 3 years ago, too.
Fluid level ok? Hate to think you got a bum trans...do they go bad if they sit for awhile, not being used, fluid circulated, etc?

I'm almost wondering if it has a stuck valve or something from sitting. Might stop by and talk to my tranny guy and see what he thinks. Hope its something stupid and simple

Yeah check the silly obvious things first just in case...TV cable position, filter okay, filter not fallen off of the valvebody or something...

Careful of where the shifter linkage is hooked up on that lonnnnng slotted hole in that arm.

And yes more than likely it's a VB issue which would be a cheap easy fix.

stopped in and talked to my tranny guy and he said that he thinks the rubbers got hard and to try some trans-X but if that doesnt fix it that he will rebuild it in trade for me doing some R&R for him.  It pays to have a tranny guy as a good family friend plus I have worked for him before and he calls me one of the best tranny pushers he knows!!

My 83 AOD lost all forward while I was delivering pizza in it, lol. I drove it all the way back to the shop in reverse, then all the way home in reverse. Screw tow trucks ;)

I took it to my acquaintance who runs a transmission shop. He replaced the valve body (and fluid/filter of course) and it was good as new. I think I had about $90-120ish in it.

sounds like you've got something sticking in the VB.. your trans guy is spot on with the trans-x.. it will put some life back into the seals and (hopefully) get you going forward.. can't see the clutches being hurt if it was kept out of the weather and didn't take any water in.. if you have to put your hands into it, you should do the epoxy mod ;)
