LA3/big VAM swap March 14, 2012, 10:38:49 PM ok so i have an 84 TC i am in the process of putting together. i finally came across a deal on a complete 88 to rob parts off, so i am going to be using the LA3 and big VAM, as well as the complete engine. I have been researching the swap and it looks like i have to move roughly 4 wires in the computer plug and i'll be good to go. my real question is i have been seeing stuff about wiring up the regular/premium fuel switch. is this necessary? i plan to always run premium in it Quote Selected
LA3/big VAM swap Reply #1 – March 15, 2012, 06:29:31 PM I would suggest you use the 84TC wiring harness. The 88 is a pain....lots more wires.Travis Quote Selected
LA3/big VAM swap Reply #2 – March 15, 2012, 09:33:39 PM I agree on using the 84 harness. I wired mine to be in premium mode all the time but I used a wire tap so I can disconnect it easily if I need to or add a switch later on down the line. Here are some of the links I used for research when I did mine.http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t97/biggrgivens/pci%20to%20la3%20swap/PC1tola3swap.jpghttp://rothfam.com/svo/reference/PEtoLA.pdfhttp://www.ptaaron.com/la3/index.htmlhttp://www.mikewalsted.com/tbird_LA3.html Quote Selected
LA3/big VAM swap Reply #3 – March 15, 2012, 09:57:22 PM All you have to do is wire a pair of wires from pin 24 OCT SELECT to pin 46 Sig RTN to a toggle switch. With the switch open it is in reg mode. With it closed you are in premium. Just a thought. Quote Selected
LA3/big VAM swap Reply #4 – March 16, 2012, 12:28:07 AM well thanks for the info, but i did some trading today and got the 5.0 back that came out of my first Bird. going to be putting it in the 84 and saving the 2.3T stuff for a later project, probably a first generation ranger Quote Selected
