Side Exit Exhaust? February 01, 2012, 06:38:15 PM Anybody out there kicking their exhaust out infront of the tires with subframe connectors? Im just looking for some pics Ive got a few ide-ras in my head. But routing it around the SFC's is about the only issue Im havin aside from cutting a section out running the pipe through it and all that stuff but knowing me it'll vibrate and cause me great agony of the earlike orfices.Post em up! Side Exit Exhaust? Reply #1 – February 01, 2012, 07:24:48 PM you would almost have to do it like an old 'vette. Bring them right behind the font tires and expose them down the side. I dont know how else to route them past the SFC without looking bad, or giving you bugatti like ground clearance!Curious to see what you end up doing Quote Selected
Side Exit Exhaust? Reply #2 – February 01, 2012, 07:31:40 PM Well...heh...I have a little experience with that. TECHNICALLY the lers should be behind the front seating area. That's how laws have worked for awhile, in particular when these cars were built. In that case, the special Walker/Dynomax in/out lers are perfect, but with the exhaust pipe angles, they won't work with SFCs.But I guess it all depends on where you live. If you have yearly or bi-annual inspections then you really cannot cheat the exhaust system on the visual inspection part. But if you don't, you can do what I did and move the lers up toward the front of the car. Basically I have this setup:1-5/8" equal length Hooker headers > Offroad X-pipe > ~4" intermediate pipes > Dynomax race bullet lers > 2.5" exhaust pipes, 90-degree bend out the side behind the SFCsLoud? Yes.Fumes? Sí.Fun? Most definitely.I don't have too much rattling but every few years or so, I have to take it to the ler shop and get the custom brackets rewelded.Otherwise, no problems. Side Exit Exhaust? Reply #3 – February 01, 2012, 07:45:06 PM Thanks for the info Eric! Im gonna be running magnaflow lers about 2.5 feet off the long tubes and kick the tail pipes through the SFC in which I may need to do some more weld work no biggy. my car doesnt sit that low to the ground cause of the big meaty tires so clearence shouldnt be an issue. If anything is gonna hit its going to be the k-member first which will be catastrophic... but will not worry bout that. Do you happen to have any pics of your setup under the 'vert Eric? Side Exit Exhaust? Reply #7 – February 02, 2012, 03:23:12 PM Yes, that's pretty much it. That's so you don't pull any fumes into the passenger compartment with the factory exhaust setup. Now exhaust leaks, they happen all the time, but for a stock system that's correct.I have no inspections in my part of Ohio, and even if I did, there are ways to exempt the car (like getting collectors plates, which I'd done a few times). So for what I did, and when I did it, my exhaust system didn't have any legal repercussions whatsoever. And yes, the race bullets sound awesome. Pretty much the same as large diameter Cherry Bombz--hollow! Quote Selected
