Hmmm... On the one hand, an end to performance exhaust, on the other, an end to fart cans...

If I had to vote right now I don't know which way I'd go. I live approximately 1/2 mile from a busy road that happens to be a 1/4 mile long steep grade, and let me tell you, those fart cans are really, REALLY annoying when trying to sleep with a window open. Harleys with no lers are no better...

Perhaps if they modified the law so that lers that increase sound a certain dB over stock were outlawed? But then again, I suppose such laws already exists on a federal level. Maybe the police should start enforcing them instead of coming up with more red tape...

Well right now there is no law about the dB level of a cars exhaust. It is up to the office how load is too loud. Which again I call  :bs: because I have had them tell me anything that isn't OEM is too loud.

I under stand this too. I have an 01 Focus, yes I said Focus, that I put a sainless exhaust on. I was under the impresion from the manufacturer that it would open the exhauset up with little sound difference from stock. Well they were wrong.  thing makes you go def driving it around too long.

Here is the setup I have on my Focus.

yeah. Its still okay for us though, Our cars all came with duel exhaust. for example. Oh really? Didnt the 88 cougars come with duel exhaust? No need to tell them that it isnt a 88 cougar, But it seems to work at the shops. I couldnt even get a quote on my car for a cat back ($345 without lers) when they knew that it was a 86. Told them it was a 87, and first call they were trying to set me up with an appointment.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I live in wisconsin, right outside the maintown here there are 2 little towns close by and about 7 within about 20 miles. its redneck country out here and everyone has modified exhaust. Its just the way of life. i don't mind getting woken up by some deep growl coming from a nice truck, but those fart cans suck, they are just loud and annoying, they suck.

Any opening wider than stock is illegal in Alberta, and Edmonton police enforce it with a passion. I couldn't tell you how many guys in my cruising clubs have been ticketed this year.

I agree with the max db rating. If you're getting an aftermarket exhaust, you should have to have it tested under load for noise before it passes. That also means dyno, so I imagine most guys putting pipes on their cars wouldn't have a problem with that. :)
