Headlights driving me insane

I installed relays to draw power from the battery awhile ago...have had no problems till recently...now the high beams are on...but dim whenever the lights are on....everything is great with the high beams on.  I've checked the grounds because that hasn't changed anything....I'm thinking bad relay...but don't want to just throw money at it...any ideas?

Well if I don't get any answers by my next day off(Wednesday), I'm gonna check random wires for corrosion.  Hopefully it's something simple, since the only local source for the relays is $20...I can get 4 on amazon for $17 with shipping.  Unless this is a feature...where the highs are supposed to be barely lit when the lows are on?  I have no clue, never seen a vehicle act like this before.

The high beams should not come on with the low beams. But, the low beams are dual element and do come on with the high beams.
Do you have autolamp and auto dimmer feature?
Can you post a diagram of the changes you made to the stock wiring?

I am guessing you have two relays, one for high beam and one for low beam.
Unplug the high beam relay and see if the problem goes away.

Unplug the low beam lights one at a time. If the two elements in one of the low beam lights are shorted together, it will cause both high beams to come on.

well it can't be the shorted low beam...I just replaced the low beams due to moisture in them/dim output and the problem occured with them and still occurs with the new ones...I'll unplug the relay in a little bit and post again.  Tomorrow I'll post the diagram unless it turns out to be the relay.  I do not have auto anything on this car lol...sorry I probly should have mentioned that it's an 85 5.0 base...no options...3.08 open diff even(barf!)

okay removing the highbeam relay didn't fix it...however when I was prying the socket off the relay I jumped two terminals by accident with my screw driver and BAM...it fixed it...so I'm gonna look at the wiring compared to a diagram and see if something is either wired wrong or if that relay is just bad.
