adding 3rd brake light to 85 bird...

Apparently not as easy as splicing into a wire or two. I was running it off the green wire on the right connector of the LH tail light...but it was causing the tail light to be really dim.  So I also tied it in to the left light on the RH side....no lights dim now.  BUT...  I went to go somewhere and hit the headlight switch...3rd brake light comes on WTF!  Turn off headlights...hit brakes....it comes on but so do the dash lights WTF!  So I cut the wires going to the 3rd brake light and everything functions as normal...but now I have a hole in my stock deck carpet thingymabobber.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the next two days off, so when I have time I'll be checking bulbs and wires in the tail lights.  I did have issues with the outside bulb in the RH tail light.  Both outside tail lights have those clip on splices on them from a previous owner, so maybe one of those is screwed up.  Any ideas would be helpful tho.

I was about to type in, just find the signal wire off the brake switch, or wire in your own. You could also do it the hard way and wire in diodes so that the turn signals are not affected by your brake lights. Or just pull the whole setup out of an 86-up car.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
