Need Help, AOD install

OK, I let me family's mechanic replace the AOD. I instructed him to swap the Tbird Linkage onto the Mustang AOD, flipping it 180* in the process.

He is a great, honest guy, but he is a parts replacer, not a true mechanic I guess. He calls me saying everything is reverse, and he cant get it into P, or Low gear because the linkage ishiznitting the pan.

Immediately, I asked if he flipped the linkage, he said no because it wont work that way, etc. I drive over. I show him that it will fit, but he says it wont change how the linkage works. I dont know enough about how it works inside to explain this to him. He showed me the piece that looks kind of like a clutch quadrant, and how it interacts with the linkage. Does that get flipped inside the tranny, or just the outside arm?

Any pics?

First of all.  Column shift or Floor shift?

Here is a picture of my column shifted 88 Cougar AOD linkage...

The shift lever certainly would NOT rotate 180*.
