nontypical speedo question

I've searched the forum and can't find an answer to this . I have a 1983 Cougar that I am putting a big block in and still want the speedo to work . It has the digital dash with a speedo cable going to it and I need to know if all the controls for it are integrated into the dash cluster ? or will it not work since I am removing the engine ecm ?

also has anybody got these older dashes to read over 85 mph yet ?

Thanks

I think the control for that old style are in the cluster.

The dash should not be effected.

Anything with a speedo cable is driven by the transmission, ECM has zero effect on operation...

buttstuffog dashes can be swapped in a re-tuned. 85 to 88 digi's can be modified to read over 85mph but cannot be easily bolted into an 83-84 dash. You may be able to modify it to work. I personally like the 85-88 better myself.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
