Only a fast question...

So much time i needed help about the auto trans (C5).
The correct type of fluid for this tranny was DEXRON II - III or Mercon , right ? Yesterday i nearly bought Type F Fluid......

And it´s 11 pints (5.2 L) ......oh yes

Yes, the correct fluid for a C5 is Dexron II/III. The dipstick says "Type "H", but Type H is just Dexron (or at least Dexron meets Type H specs). Don't put type F in it unless you want to chirp the tires with every gear change until the tranny fails. Some people will add a quart or two of Type F for a firmer shift feel, but don't do a whole fluid change with it.

I've had only F in my Bird's AOD since '99 and have been using it the wifes Grand Marquis since early '98, but not everyone should necessarly do same as me..

The reason it's in the Bird is I race it and will firm up the shifts a little(but nothing drastic, the Trans Go shift kit made 10 times more difference). The Grand Marquis tranny started slipping on the 1-2 shift at 33K mi. With the F(still slipped) and a B&M electronic shift improver, it just crossed 100K mi last week and still works fine...

I wonder if I should throw a lil' F into my '86's AOD.. the 1-2 shift is very.. err.. leisurely.
