(i changed oil allready) ive had the valvecovers off and there is a lot of sludge in there (allready cleaned them) im wondering if that could clog the pickup and or damage anything clog pushrods blagh that would lead to engine damagesorry for the hi-jack jcassity Quote Selected
Re: just great, oil light Reply #16 – May 23, 2005, 12:33:10 AM imho,, its pretty hard to clog a pushrod or a lifter. There just not much room for that to happen unless your oil filter decides to internally expode and allow stuff that made it through the sump to enter oil ports.k,, so 20/50 its gonna get. well,, heres my new rule of thumbwith an engine over 300k miles.........dont skip out on..........pistonspiston pinscrankbroach the rodsnew brass rod bushing(where piston pin goes) line bore and broach the blockcompletely overhaul the heads totally (no bs lapping on the valves.)did i miss anything? Re: just great, oil light Reply #17 – May 23, 2005, 01:21:19 PM time to load up with some cheap 20/50.if that does not do the trick, im pulling off the external pump , out with the gears and ill manually actuate the presure relief valve. I only hope this works.btw,, 4.2 liter stuff is hard to find,, cant get the crank/rods/pistons at advance. Advance quoted me a couple days ago but the said they goofed. Quote Selected
Re: just great, oil light Reply #18 – May 24, 2005, 09:30:31 AM 20/50 oil is in and light is still on. Ill probably find some time to pull the pump gears and see if i can move the relief valve. if it moves fairly easy, the problem is elsewhere and it must be my fault.wonder if they sell higher volume oil pump gears for the 3.8?maybe the gears from any old high volume pump kit on a ford will fit?ill bring my old gear set to advance and size them up to a high vol pump kit at advance and see if they do and let you guys know. Re: just great, oil light Reply #19 – May 25, 2005, 01:15:21 AM i feel like a dumb ass.I went to advance and they pulled the high volume pump off the shelf for an 88 5.0as i take the pump out, i say out loud,,"leme see what these gears look like"the sales guy (manager) just leaned over and watched as i pulled out my own tools to take the cover off.As the last bolt came out, i said,,, "see, all i want is the gears if they will fit into my 3.8" His reply,,"i dont really care as long as you buy that pump cause you just voided the warrenty"I walked out taking the path of least resistance cause it wasnt really that much money. so anyone wanna by a high volume oil pump? the gears are useless to my oil pump housing configuration.i pretty much think he was being an ass. Come on guys, dont you take the cover off the pump and fill it with assembly grease right off the bat before installing it?whats all this warrenty for taking a cover off anyway,, gezz the bolts were hand tight to start with.
