wow, the wind.

So about midnight, I was laying in bed...not yet asleep, but nearly so. Heard something that sounded like a low flying jet or a strong wind, so I got up, and turned on the computer to see the radar map. As soon as the page loaded the wind slammed into the house...metal rattling and banging on the roof. Ran to the back door, opened it and it immediately was sucked shut.
We also had pea and marble sized hail, dangerous lightning, and a torrential downpour.
Doppler radar pics indicated rotation in my area...lots of damage and debris here and limbs, branches and 2 trees down in my yard. My dad called and said they were probably 200 years old or so...they were huge trees when my grandparents bought this farm in 1957, and my dad was a young boy.

It sucks...but at least they fell south, had they fell north or northwest, they would've landed on the house and killed us.

Oh, and there are unconfirmed reports pouring in of a possible tornado hitting a small town about 10-12 miles north...my dad's girlfriend lives in that town...apparently after it had went through, she went to her car, and people were shining their headlights on what were homes before the storm...she also heard people crying for help and the power has been out everywhere here...thankfully, nothing has went out here (yet).

More storms coming through though..

My garden has taken a beating...some of the kid's toys are probably blown out into the hayfields, and of course, the 2 huge oak trees that are blown down. XXX

This is a doppler image of the storm front, the circles with arrows are rotation, the white lines are the direction of the supercell's path, and as you can see, one of the areas of rotation hit my place head on. The area to my north where the possible twister(s) hit had even stronger rotation. I've been in some bad weather numerous times...but never have I been in a storm that came on this fast and had such strong wind. I roughly guess it at around 70 mph, later this was confirmed by a trained spotter who I talked to in person who said that damage reports would likely place wind speeds around 75 to 80 mph.

in the pic, the yellow square is Laclede, and I am where the tiny green dot is, just north of the town. As you can see, we were in the path of some of the rotation. This was an odd storm system, to say the least.

It woke me up last night also, no major damage, just small limbs etc.

Glad you all are OK.

So today I got busy and cut 3 loads of brush and limbs off, many more to go though. At least I don't have to wade through poison ivy and stickers to get this firewood lol.
