Reply #15 – April 10, 2009, 09:49:40 PM Not tryin to hi-jack the meaning of this thread, but sockets can ve very useful for our cars, you can use a grinded down 1/2" socket to replace the hardened plastic ball bearing things in the window motors when they eventually (it will happen) break. Which probably had something to do with my core failing a few months later.Now I'm going to have to stick something in there for when I use the core in the winter months. Heater hose ? Reply #17 – December 04, 2010, 02:51:47 PM I have had no faith in a restrictor doing anything in the past. I have also only had one heater core out of probably 6 last longer then 1 year. Last year it only lasted about 5 months while I was doing pizza delivery.This year, I put a 1/4" drive socket in there, and we will see how it works out. I also managed to get a lifetime warrenty one from orileys after autozone would not let me use their warrenty. I also paid less, and got an older copper looking core. All the ones I have gotten for the last several years were aluminim. I am actually considering boycotting autozone for what happend that day. They said that my lifetime warrenty expires after 1 year, and that is also wouldn't matter because they didn't have one to replace it. Then they found one in the back that was not in the computer system. Ended up being the wrong part, and when I told them that, they didn't belive me. I am not sure what the heater core was for, but the tubes were on opposite ends, and would not fit, even if it was the right part. They recommended I go to a store about 15 miles away to see if they had one that I thought would fit.I ended up going about 5 miles down the street and got one at checker(oriley's). Its pretty funny, but I quit going to checker for the same reasons why I am thinking about quitting autozone. Quote Selected

All the stores all train their employees the same way, too read whats on that computer. My personal favorite at least in my area is AZ b/c I've been going there enough that I know everyone there and most of the guys there have a good fair amount of knowledge about what goes where, and their always willing to help me look up part #'s and prices and what not.Not to mention they always seem to have the parts I need. I do prefer pep boys a little more but the closest one is 25 mins away so I stick to AZ who is literally almost across the street, but they still got Advance , NAPA, and carquest beat. Quote Selected
Heater hose ? Reply #20 – April 26, 2011, 09:27:35 AM Old thread I know, but my heater core finally died completely on easter 105 miles from home. Isn't that usually when happens? It's by-passed for now, gonna be awhile since I don't usually get days off unless it rains. Also thought I might wait till I can get a blower motor and do both at the same time. This is the first heater core I'm going to replace. My last ford(a topaz) had over 300,000 miles on it and was still the original heater core!P.S. The AZ's around here usually have know-it-all rice lovers, who really don't know much about anything other than honda's. The carquest always tries to sell me more then I actually want/need(came in for spade terminals and he tried selling me new relays?). Napa is over priced. I go to Oreilly's for the price and knowledge, sometimes AZ beats the price tho by a few bucks. Quote Selected
