Almost got rear ended today.

Im crusing down the street, and passing by a popular place to park cars FSBO. I see a blue Nova for $10,500. Huh. I see a stripe on the back, hit my blinker and slam on the brakes to make the turn.

Thinking, OH MAN THE WIFE IS GONNA KILL ME

It was a busted up clone. False alarm.

A Yenko Nova for 10k, im in. A busted up clone, pass.

Dig the detached pea-shooters hanging out under the bumper. It has some alarming panel gaps at the doors and quarters, too.

There are an astonishing number of clones out there. I would hate to see somebody fork over some serious clams for a claimed Yenko, SS, or Baldwin Motion just for a clone.

A friend of mine built up a '67 Chevelle (which left the assembly line with a straight-six and a slushbox) with a 396 and a 4-speed. He had 'SS' badges in the proper places soon thereafter. He would claim it as a true Chevelle SS at parties to impress people, but I never called him out on it. I guess I should have.

I knew a guy in a town about 5 miles from me...he had several 69 though 71 Chevelles, Malibus, and such. Had them all painted/badged/trimmed/ and otherwise optioned to appear as factory SS cars. He tried selling one as such, but he almost had to go to court over it...ended up givin' the guy that bought his money back.

Then later on he actually came across a pretty rotten genuine '70 SS454 Chevelle. He spent a coupla years and and some pretty stupid money to restore it. Then he got drunk, stuck his head out the window of the truck he was driving, and played chicken with a fencepost. +1, fencepost, -1 Ray.

Dunno what happened to the '70....it was pretty nice, and pretty  fast.

RIP Ray, you nutty ole sumbitch.
