351w to far back?

I have dropped in a 351w (carb) engine with a c-4 trans into my 84' T Bird. To get the trans mount to line up, the engine is all the way back to the firewall. Has anyone done this project and could give me some advice on which headers to use? I have seen the bbk's and mac and such but don't know, and if I need to get a smaller booster for the master cylinder. I have been told that the mustang (fox) is narrower and would work.
Any help would be great!!
Thank you

Stock 302 mounts should position the 351W right where it's supposed to go.  The tranny crossmember then gets modified by removing the welds that hold the crossmember to the cylinder shaped mounts, and slid into position, then rewelded.

Could he get a cross member from a newer fox body with dual humps? My 88 Cougar has a daul hump cross member that is  adjustable.

I used an '87 5.0 AOD Cougar double hump in my '87 Tbird TC.  Did what I mentioned in post #2.  The AOD is longer than C4.

I used a t5 but went with new dble hump cross member that was never welded paid like 65 for it. Chucks mounts pretty much determined where the motor sat. I used bbk 351 swap fox shorty headers with a 87 Mustang brake booster to clear the firewall adjuster for the clutch cable. The motor sits 2" plus off the fire wall And I put the headers on before the install only wish I used some sort of locking bolts the # 8cyl  last bolt fell out and cant get my fat hands in there to put in a new one

My factory crossember isn't welded. Maybe it's a fluke thing but I know it's original cause Im the second owner and my aunt owned before me.

the two bolts that mount it to the frame rail, that tube is where it is welded to the actual support. you just grind off the welds and then move to support where it needs to sit, then re-weld it to the tubes that go in the frame rail.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I have run a 351 my 83 cougar and my 85 T bird. I now have a 460 and C6 with stock cross member.
C4 is shorter so ether make a new cross member or make a extension plate and weld or bolt it to your old cross member.
Headers look at shorty's from  BBK, D&D, Mac, Headmen and FlowTeck.
I like D&D myself.

I'm sure you will need a new driveshaft made as well.
