What other mods have you done to the car, especially fuel system? It's REALLY easy to max out the stock fuel system with a turbo upgrade. I personally found it incredibly easy to max out my stock pump and injectors with the Evergreen T3/T4 hybrid I put on.
If you have no plans to upgrade the fuel system, I'd go with a .60/.63 T3. If you've got plans to do more upgrades in the future, it's hard to beat a quality T3/T4 hybrid. They allow plenty of growth. Just keep the boost turned down with it until you can provide more fuel. Remember, it's not entirely about how much boost, but how much volume the turbo can put out. I ran 20#+ with just a .48/.60 TC without problems, but 19# with the hybrid was enough to cause detonation and damage from running lean.
88 TC 5speed, 168000+ miles, stock 2.3T long block, ported RFE6 exhaust, Evergreen T3 running 15#'s.
Up next: FMIC, fresh air intake, ported intakes, ported big valve head.

If you have stock exhaust, you should definitly think about an upgrade. I had an '86 Turbo Coupe and the factory sized 2" single exhaust was inadequate for a stock .60-.60 turbo. I upgraded to a 2.5" single system with a cheap ler and it made a huge difference. jangus is right on with the fuel system upgrades too. You have a return fuel line so you can never have to much fuel volume.
