timing gears Reply #8 – December 20, 2010, 10:08:38 PM They might last longer, but they do not do timing any better. They transmit alot of harmonics and vibration into the drivetrain that can actually make it hard to keep timing at higher RPM's. For the $80 you would pay on top of a normal double roller timing chain, I would just stick with that. My stock single roller lasted 170k or so. I have no reason to doubt a double would last as long, or longer then the stock one. Here is a thread from SBFtech. on the subject.http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,18613.45.htmlLong story short, it will take MORE power. It costs more, and there is no benefit. Here is another quote for you.I used a Dynagear drive for some time. Engine ran for about 3 years with very little maintenance at the strip, but developed a mysterious bog off the line. Changed everything, went back to what I started with, but changed to a timing chain instead of gear drive. Not only did it run fine again, but it also picked up .3 second! who would've figured? Seriously, it was very easy to install, just had to grind a casting off the inside of the timing cover. It was easy with a Dremel tool. That's all that was required. Man, that thing was noisy!http://www.fordmuscleforums.com/all-ford-techboard/415622-289-302-gear-drive.html Quote Selected
timing gears Reply #9 – December 23, 2010, 11:28:00 PM hmmm interesting, i always liked the sound of a roots style blower, thought i'd make the KB im getting louder by useing the gears, but maybe ill just use the chain. i keep getting more and more bad things about the gears. Quote Selected
timing gears Reply #10 – December 23, 2010, 11:36:36 PM the harmonics tend to weaken the idler gears after a while.. i have a pete jackson set where 1 of the teeth actually cracked and chipped.. but i've used others and ran more miles with no issues.. but the harmonics really throw things off a bit Quote Selected
timing gears Reply #11 – December 26, 2010, 03:33:06 PM I ran a B&M gear drive in my Z28 for years with no prob on the street and track.I would not run one anymore just for noise they make. But each to there own. Quote Selected
timing gears Reply #12 – December 26, 2010, 06:16:32 PM not to mention, after a few thousand miles, they lose their 'blower' sound and just gets down right annoying Quote Selected
