gt-40 heads and explorer intake

Just wanted to know what kind of performance i can get from this setup, i have a chance to grab up a set of 93-95 cobra gt-40 heads and a intake from a '96 explorer 5.0,keep in mind my engine is a HO 5.0 also i already have a bbk 65 mm TB that will go with this setup.

Also is $300 for the heads and upper and lower a good price ?

$300.00 is a good price. It'll be a power difference you can feel in the seat of your pants when you hit the gas.

300 is a decent price for the heads alone.. the explorer upper and lower are better but not a huge gain

Sounds good to me, i'll be that much closer to my goal, once i get ahold of this i can get my cam kit then get the heads, intake and TB machined and rip it all apart and slap in the new and i'll be happy.

The intake with those heads and a 65mm throttlebody will be great. You will need to have a stock throttlebody spacer opened up to 65mm as well to let the throttlebody do it's job. The local machine shop here charged me $10.00 (about 5 years ago). The Explorer/GT40/Cobra intakes all flow nearly the same, and are a big improvement over the stock H.O intake. Get them and get your engine together. You will need new valve springs for Explorer heads.Otherwise, you may not like what can happen.

Also, get some gears unless you've already swapped them out. With an E303,a stock torque converter and that cam don't like each other. I found out the hard way. I have the T-5 now,so that issue is resolved. For a daily driver,I'd suggest 3.55's or 3.73's.

Cool cool i didnt know i would need the spacer i'll get right on that, right now im planning on 3.73's as it will be more street since winter is in full swing here. Im planning on a custom cam with some better springs, hardened push rods and some roller rockers thinkin 1.6 or 7. Along with the heads, intake im gonna add a cold air intake, upgrade the timing setup and just leave it at that until summer rolls around. Once the strip opens back up im gonna open it up and see how much power i can push out of this hopefully the trans can hold together lol.

If you already have a HO pistons with valve reliefs then you're all ready to go.

If you have about $100 then there is a guy that is one Corral that can rework the lower intake and it will make a huge difference.  His name is Tom Moss and I had him port the lower on my old Cobra intake setup and it made an honest 25hp difference on the dyno.  He goes by TMoss on the Corral and you can just PM him for the details.  Lots of guys are running ported lowers by him and swear by them.

He has a ton of tech docs here: http://eectuning.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=17

Isn't the Explorer a HO engine ? Whats up with the springs ? Too soft ? What size converter works with the E303 ? I've got a 2500 stall converter I want to use with 3.08 gears out back. Any mild cam recomandations ?

Not really. It's a truck engine (so to speak) in Explorer form. The cam is made to move a lot of weight, not go fast. The valve springs are too soft, even for a stock H.O cam. All easy fixes.
