Don't use motomaster oil filters.

Beware of Motomaster oil filters (Canadian tire) . I was on the highway today in my 05 Caravan . And the oil pressure light started flickering .Then the lifters started chattering. Topped off with oil and got home . The oil filter gasket came out in pieces. And when I changed it 2 month back I did not overtighten. I did a google search and I now know they are made in China the last 8 month's. I never had a problem with Canadian tire oil filters(used 15 years) until now.

yup, thats the good old "made in china" tag for ya. my dad put a set of aftermarket rear stabilizer links in his 01 Taurus. I think they where from Partsource, and they sheared off within 2 weeks. the original parts lasted 210 thou k's and he went back and bought replacements from ford, he was so pissed.

Partsource and Canadian tire are the same thing (CTC bought a lot of local chains out and changed their names to Partsource). CTC filters always used to be made by Fram. Must've changed suppliers...

Unfortunately that page is at least 10 years out of date...

I generally use Motorcraft filters and oil in most of my stuff, but I do have Mobil 1 0W-40 in my Marauder... This oil meets tougher European car specifications(Porsche, Mercedes, VW, etc) that 90% of the current oils out there can't...

I'm with you on the fact this is a dated but I threw it out there for a little insight on what makes one filter stand out from another. I use the 0W-40 as well in my wife's BENZ but use the MB filters in case I ever get into a g match with the dealer should a problem arise.

Thunderchicken, from what i understand the ones still on the shelf with black and red logo's are CTC/Fram . The new ones being phased in black writing only logos are the new ones from China.

Nothing but Motorcraft filters here. Never had a problem with one yet. Besides, Ford filters just look right on Ford motors!

All the NA OHC 2.3 use the FL-1 as well... The turbo versions with a oil cooler use one that's a little shorter...

I had a FL 1A with a pin hole leak about 10 years ago. Had to put 3 qts of oil in to get home from 25 miles away. But I continued to use them and never had another bad one.
