Like I said the engine runs fine. It has good compression on all cylinders so for now it's good. I was kinda checking to make sure this isn't an early warning sign of head gasket failure. As far as I know there is no way to tell how long the head gaskets have before they go. I wish I had an idea of how much time I have till they do:hick:.

193,000 miles on my 96and no HG failure that I know of. I don't think mine have ever been replaced. So, I'm sure its coming eventually.

As for the 88, well, lets just say unknowingly losing a freeze plug while driving down the road will always lead to a head gasket failure. She got a brand new 3.8 for a reason...lol

As for your worries about impending doom, I would plan ahead for a day or two, or three, to just go ahead and replace them with the good stuff now, BEFORE its too late.

The 96+ 3.8s got a revised head gasket design that makes them far less pr0ne to poping. Good thing you have a 96+ :)

Glad they finally fixed the problem. I looked at Rockauto and they only have the standard Felpro gaskets. I can't locate the part number for the ones I bought, but I know they were a lot more than $15. I wonder if they don't make the really good ones any more....

i spoke to someone at rock auto about the 'correction' gaskets when i had my SC, they weren't listed on their site but they still had them.. maybe it's still the same scenario?
