Opinions on a 78 Granada

What do you guys think of 78 granadas? Anybody ever owned one? I happen to like the boxy late-70s-early-80s look. I recently came across a low miles 78 granada pretty cheap, and I was just wondering what y'all thought of 'em.

I don't know if it has the v8 or i6. I just want a new daily driver.

I had a 78 monarch before my cougar. I still liked the monarch better (back then)

I learned to drive on my Dad's 78 Granada. It had a i6...I think it was a 250. I think the 302 V8 was an option. Mechanically, the car was great but the  thing rusted out in only a few years. I remember the bottoms of the doors were really bad.

My understanding is that they are good vehicles, sharing many underpinnings with the Mustang of the same era.

If you do get one, be sure to examine the brake lines (steel included) and replace anything that looks even a bit thin. Other than that, just do the normal checking such as ball joints, bushings, etc.

Before I purchased my Thunderbird, I was considering a Granada ES to play around with. I still think one would be cool, with a nice 5.0 and a 5-speed.

I believe the granada is on the same old falcon chassis as the maverick, not the mustang ii.

You are correct.... I should have said it was related to the generation of Mustang that came before the Mustang II. I forgot about the little Mustang II.

What do you expect from a GM guy anyway! ;)

I have come across two of them, one is a 77, one is a 78. I prefer a 4 door for my daily driver ("boo!" I know...). The white one is $1200 and has 117k miles, unknown engine, the red one has 44k miles, 302 engine.

I am just daydreaming, I can't afford anything right this second, but if I fall into some cash, I might have to get one of these :)

I had a '75(first year) 2dr with the 250 I6, other than a seeping head gasket I never had any real problems... The ex got it in the divorce back in '85, although it was basically a good car I've never missed it... She finally sold it to one of the guys I worked with who gave it to his daughter, somewhere around 195K mi it kicked a rod out the side of the block, still had it's original C4 tranny...

As already mentioned, chassis was similar to the Maverick and pre '74 Stang but also to the '66-'71 Fairlane/Torino...

My uncle had a 1977 Granada 6-cyl base car with a 4-spd manual OD. That was a good car and he had it for a long time. The platform is all of a Maverick which in turn was a Falcon platform which also supplied the Mustang. Anything you can do to a classic Mustang or Maverick you can do to a Granada. I rather like the 2-door models. I have even seen some people take the 2-door Granada and put a Lincoln Versailles front clip and rear decklid on one to make a phantom 2-door Lincoln Versailles out of it.

Here's was my bad ass mirror finish monarch with porno red interior.. I think i'm trying to relive my past through my cougar. lol
I never had a decent up close pic of it all alone. But you can really make them look tough.
I say go for it
It's back there somewhere. it was the only other car I owned before my cougar
You can't see it but I had polished aluminum honeycomb rims on it too

A dusty pic of it

I believe the Granada engine bay is smaller than the '66-'70 Falcon, which is same as '66-'71 Fairlane/Torino... On the Falcons you can bolt in a FE big block or 429-460 with factory parts, a 351 Windsor is a tight fit in the Maverick...

BTW '75 & maybe '76 Granadas had the 351 as a option, I've seen exactly one, weren't common at all...
