Ya know, both TX and FL are technically "Southern" (and "southern") states, but both differ (for different reason) from the "typical" southern state.  Maybe FL more than TX.  And not just because of the Keys and snowbirds and bluehairs and bums and touristas and .. etc.

Except for the Panhandle. That's definitely a "Southern" state.

And, actually, that's my answer with no disrespect to anyone ---- but anything below Ocala might as well be another world. 

I have lived the bulk of my life in Florida, Arkansas and North Carolina ---- and only two of those three are southern. 

If you disagree with me, spend some time in Palm Beach ---- or South Beach ---- or Orlando.  It'll take a while to find a southern accent. 

And yes, Kentucky IS a southern state. 

Once again, this post does not show any disrespect to anyone.  It's just statements of my opinions ---- which I believe to be true.
