not sure where else to put it - M.P.G. question

my set up is an 85 T-bird turbocoupe, with a 65 289 HIPO/c4 auto implant, and as far as I know a factory rear end, I think its the 7.8 rear, I may be wrong.  it has headers with glass packs, not cat. converter. no a/c but I might put it back on. no power steering but would like to have that back. Other than all that, the car itself is stock.

I'm just curious what a reasonable fuel mileage expectation would be for this car with either a 2br. carb. or a 4 br. carb.

any ideas.

Holy , who knows.  I dont know anything about C4's, I think they are 1:1, no overdrive.  On the 7.5 rear end, I think they had 3:45 gears.

Mileage......guess 13 town, 18 hwy?????

A C4 doesn't have a lockup converter, which puts it in to play at all times... With the 3.45, highway RPMs will be similar to having 3.91 gears, simile if you get any where near 18 MPG highway(it's possible)...

Too bad you can't run an AOD. If I drive normally I get about 15 city/23 highway with my mods.

I wouldn't say much more than 15 MPG. Drop the 2.3 back in if you're worried about it. 30 MPG is easy with those.

It going to depend on what type of carb, how its tuned and how you drive.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I'm not interested in getting great MPG, I just want to be able to get  enough to be able to drive it every day. anthing above 12 or 13 is groovy!

I personally wouldnt drive a car everyday unless it got at least 25 mpg. Of course Im used to ~40 mpg.

I could barely afford to feed my TC.

I'm used to an explorer sport, that got 15mpg no matter how I drove it. so a car that does 12 - 14 mpg isnt a stretch for me. lol plus I dont have any car payments so that helps

But but think of all those hydrocarbons and other pollutants. And think of all that fossil fuel youre using. You should totally consider buying a toyota prius. They are the best car ever made. They dont pollute at all. Theyre so green. If you own a prius, youre in touch with nature.

Hahaha just kidding. If you can afford the fun go for it.

But do remember how much money youre putting in the pockets of those evil evil middle eastern oil companies. :P
