NOS is a brand name.. If you ain't a ricer, the correct term is nitrous..

IF you have fresh head gaskets, I doubt there would be a problem with a small shot say 50-60hp... BUT.. With the head gasket issues the 3.8 has, I'd be weary of using it on a set of old HGs(unless you want to plan on replacing them right away).

you also have to consider how weak the pistons are in the cars

that, and youll need more mods, youre gonna need at least full exhaust, to be able to really take advantage of nitrous
It's Gumby's fault.

I wouldn't run NOS on any stock motor from that era.  I'll assume your 3.8 is stock and original for the car.  That being said, unless you want to take the bus everywhere, skip that idea.

Some of these cars are now over 20 years old.

if he is running a wet kit then he should have no probs all the way up to A 100 SHOT,

But u will want to run a thicker oil like a 15/40 to absorb the load and keep the bearings from having the 10/30  flattend out.
As for pistons there cast and can take more then Hypers cans.

Headgaskets will always come into play and as long as u dont go lean u should be ok unless your HGs are on there way out then u will be helping then along.

risky, but fun. till it toasts the motor. be carefull, its easy to abuse and its easy to get greedy. dont ask me how i know...

The only thing labeled NOS that should be used on a 3.8 is either a New Old Stock part or a sticker. The 3.8 is already a weak motor with a relatively short life, you'll be askin for trouble if you try to use the bottle...

i dont want to say its a weak engine, id rather say poorly designed

my 3.8L is around 180K miles, and its still going strong, could probably use a timing chain and a good, complete tune up, and it would run another 50-100K miles

if youre hell bent on running the bottle, at least look into pulling the heads, having the machine shop check them out, and possibly do some minor porting work, pick up some headers from a stock V6 stang, and have 2.25" exhaust bent, with cats and lers

look into cleaning up the ports on the intake manifold, and trying to find a CFI off of a 5.0 HO car, tune the fuel pressure down so you dont run too rich

when putting it back together, use ARP fasteners where ever possible, and use the highest quality FelPro headgaskets you can find

this should ensure a decent flowing engine, so you should be able to take advantage of the full shot youre using, i wouldnt go above a 75 shot, 100 could be pushing it
It's Gumby's fault.

I wouldn't hook Nitrous up to any motor that doesn't have a completely new fuel system, front to back, that can be perfectly tuned. If you want power, you're better off swaping out that 6.
