Pip? Tfi?
Having a little issue with my '85 Thunderbird, it is all stock with the 302 and AOD. The smog pump is not in it as it locked up on me a few months ago and I just ran a shorter belt. And it has to my best guess quite a bit over 350k miles.
It has been occasionally dying breifly and then catching itself and continuing. Kinda like a hiccup or something(I ain't great with descriptions) I pulled codes with the KOEO test and got the following, in order:
84, 10, 14, 18, 41, 14, 18, 31
So I wanted to run this by you all and see if I am thinking this one right.
I believe it will be the PIP sensor causing the issue that I have been having, just missing a few spots here and there while it is spinning. It does seem to do this under acceleration more. Anyone know if I can replace this without removing the distributor? I have never had one out of a car before and I am worried that if I have to take it out then I might get it back in wrong.
I think it might be a good idea to replace the TFI, as this car has a lot of miles on it. But I don't want to throw money at something it doesn't need. But I am willing to if you think it could help, it is my daily driver and I love it.
I think one of the codes is for the O2 sensor, I don't really know anything about these other then where it is on my car. But I don't think it would be hard to replace with my limited wrenching skills.
I hope I ain't forgetting anything here, I work nights and was up all day with my daughter who was ill. Thanks in advance for any help.
