That's...well, strange as hell, to tell the truth. Sure you don't have some messed up wiring?

I had a similar issue, turned out to be a missing relay I'd removed while taking the dash out. But this has nothing to do with your case...hope ya get it sorted. :D

now i cant figure it out. i checked every wire and relay and the inertia switch and still the fuel pumps wont turn on. but when i dropped the gas tank and had the tank on the ground and turned the ignition both fuel pump turn on and hum like brand new pumps. then put the tank and pumps back where they go and turn on the ignition again and they worked till i drained the battery from trying to start the car a long time. after i charged the battery up again the pumps dont make any sounds like before i dropped the tank. what could be the problem?

Find the self-test connector under the hood by the left strut tower.
Ground the tan wire labeled fuel pump in the picture.
Turn the key on and let us know if the pumps run.

if your pumps worked with the tank down on the ground, but did not work when you reinstalled the tank,,

your problem is an intermittant open or possibly even shorting. The shorting may cause unwanted sparks:mad:

you need help from someone by doing the following

turn on key (no start)and instantly start doing a wiggle test of the fuel tank harness from under the car.

this may take several tries.

to retest, wait about 5 sec before you turn the key back on.

normal process goes like this when nothing is broke....
you turn on the key
instantly the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds then shuts off
Key on only , no start

its not as complex compared to the new column transmission linkage setup i made to fit my longtube headers and be able to run my transmission.

i havent fixed the problem. im getting power and ground to the gas gauge. but no power to the fuel pumps but the ground to the pumps are fine and connected. so im going to start checking around the ecu and in the engine bay for any bad or loose power wires.
