Speedometer Cable

So, I need a little help. I was installing some after market gauges maybe a week or two ago, and now my speedometer reads 0. I ran the oil pressure and water temperature wires through the same grommet as what must be the speedometer cable. It plugs right into the back of the gauge cluster. The thing is, I had no idea how to unplug it from the gauge cluster! I had to tug on it a bit to try to get some room to fit my hands behind it.

Oh, this is the 83, 84 digital dash cluster btw.

remove your dashpad and see if it gives you access to the back of your cluster, if so check and make sure the cable is inserted correctly into the speedometer.

You squeeze the white clip on the end of the cable where the cable attaches to the back of the speedo unit and pull hard. Sometimes it's a pain in the butt but I have done this a zillion times. Sounds like the cable did not seat all the way into the back of the speedo unit properly.

Thanks. That's what I wanted to hear. I'll check it out tomorrow. Big spring cleaning today and I'm tired...

IIRC, you can remove the knee pad under the steering column and reach inside to the back of the cluster to get to the cable.
