351w swap

Whats up my name is Rick Im new to the whole t-bird thing. I just traded my foxbody mustang for a 84 t-bird. I was going to swap the 351w in my mustang and the 5-speed transmission into the t-bird i was wondering if this is possible the t-bird already has a 5.0 I was thinking this would be a pretty easy swap. I would appreciate any ideas or thoughts on this.

It is an easy swap to do if you have all the parts to do it. I have swapped all the parts i need to do the swap. I am now at the point of doing the custom work like extending the power steering bracket, fabing a new bracket for the fuel lines, modifying the old harness to except the new electronics. Carbed 351w would be a simple swap. Find a engine from a 85ish Crown Vic or Grand Marquie. the parts are all there then. Fuel injection swap in alot more involved. Any questions just ask.

my plans where to use the rear end motor tranny and clutch pedals out of my foxbody mustang, Im hoping all the drivetrain will work not to concerned about the motor working. I wanted something other than a mustang for a change so i traded the mustang for the thunderbird.

Welcome...I don't want to sound like a dick, but if you look at the threads here in the engine swapping section, you'll find a ton of info on 351W swaps...I did one a little over a year ago and another guy here has one under way...maybe even complete by now, even a few others have 351W's...the most common swap it seems.

Good luck and don't expect the T-5 to live long behind a 351.

Yes on the T-5. I even have picked up a PA kit for my AOD to rebuild it because the engine is going to tear the trans apart. I am almost done mine. It is all the custom stuff now like brackets and harness mods and other little things.I just ordered a DC Controller for my mark 8 fan so i will be waiting for that now. I just need to figure out a serp belt size now.

The V6 T5 behind my 351w is holding up fine. It's just a mild 351w, but you can trash ANY trans if you're careless with them.

The V6 T-5, I'm assuming is from an SN-95...if so, they're the same as the 5.0 T-5.  I'm currently on my 2nd T-5...big torque+heavy car= bad news....I couldn't drive a car like mine in a baloon-footed fashion, I have to hammer down at least a few times a week...lol.

Good luck to OP
