Fuel Tank Vent Value

1984 Mercury Cougar, 3.8L

Trying to assemble all the parts before cleaning my fuel tank.
Can't seem to locate a fuel tank vent value / solenoid (not sure which they used?)

Anyone have:

1) any sources to purchase?
2) a work around, or
3) messed with the fuel tank to know if the vent may break (assume plastic)
either due to age or tank removal for cleaning ?

if all your going to do is clean the tank due to dirt, and just going to hose wash it, you do not have to remove the vent.

if your cleaning the tank due to rust, and going to have the tank boiled out, yes remove it.

it unhooks from the vent hose simple enough, its a slip fit
now getting it out of the tank will take some simple prying, if you bust it, hit the local pick and pull and pop one out, should be the same on most ford cars up thu the 90s

Was going to get tank steamed clean, and if bad muratic.

Just attempting to cover bases -- "Murphy's Law".
Figured it was plastic, and with my luck it would get broken removing the hose.
After all these years probably pretty brittle.

Not many salvage yards left my part of the country (Tucson, AZ) and fewer yet of
older Fords -- most crushed.
Not sure when ford changed vent solenoid --or if its just a vent, shop not real clear on this one --
from top tank to top evap can.
Even searching net for later model F150's get very few hits on "tank vents".

This also leaves the question of the rubber seal (grommet) if vent is push-in type.
Figured I might (???) be able to plug the hole and go with a vented gas cap.
Whether would pass emissions is another matter.
