Using a 5.0 from a 89 LSC?

What would be the complications to this and the difference between this engine and the tbird and stangs? I can find some between 300-700 (700 for ones wit rebuilt engines and tranny guy willing to swap both for 650, but i htink its an 85 and they have less power if i'm correct), is there any complications in the swap? can i use that pc? also it i think the compression is .3 different between the two what would be the reasoning? Also what baout anxles and breaks?

Any help is appreciated, i hopefully will be the owner of a 5.0 tbird 87 with a messed up tranny for 150 tomorrow. and then hopefully but the lsc! Then will buy a tc and make a frankenbird out of it, mostly for the hood!

Thanks for all your help.

id stay away from the 85'. i actually just tracked down an 89 lsc 5.0 HO myself for 250. weather or not im going to need to rebuild is still up in the air. i plan on using my tbirds 5.0 bracatry if i can (if anyone knows better let me know). i already have a SD mustang computer so i should be ready to go. it should be that easy...

if you are picking up the whole car (lsc) you should be good to go. (IF your current 8788 tbird is already a 5.0). dont forget to yank the headers and h pipe while your at it. should make life a little easier. depending on the condition of the rest of the car the seats might be cool to swap.

what about tranny and rear end? how are they compatible?

Would the FI harness from a stock 5.0 tbird be okay to use an 5.0ho?

actually, thats the way to go. your golden if your car already has the 5.0 SO and is an 87-88. just the engine and computer and your good to go...plug and play.

the tailstock on the AOD in the mark7 is longer i think.

the rear end is wider but can be used. i think (but im not sure) that the 5 lug pattern is bigger than the more common mustangs 5 lug pattern. you could use the rear diff, front spindles and brakes but you might be limited on rim selection. if its the same as the mustangs 5 lug pattern you should be in good shape. i havnt researched the mark7 stuff so i cant be sure...

tranny is big concern for me, the one bird i should be getting has a possibly blown tranny if not just big issues so will need ones anyways. so hoping two birds with one stone, cheap stone at that.

Except for all being Speed Densety, engine same as Stang..

Tailhousing on tranny is approx 1" longer.

Rear is approx 1 1/2" wider...

Bolt pattern is SAME as 5 lug Stang....

All the MN12s (Bird and VIII)have a slightly smaller pattern. I believe its 4 1/4" vs 4 1/2"...

So will it fit the AOD if the tail housing is longer or not into a  bird? saw the bird, but guy wasn't there today 87 black, front grill is broke looks great condition didn't wanna be trespassing in someones property though so couldn't tell much and my mom (the finder) says it has a 5.0 thats all she knows, i try to tell her what to look out for me and thats all she much knwos aobut the cars haha. But most moms wouldn't do that.

It may or may not work, likely you'll have to have the driveshaft shortened. FYI the 5 speed Turbo Coupe driveshafts are approx a 1" shorter than the AOD D/S(at least the ones I have compaired to my '87 AOD D/S are). I'm not absoulty sure the Bird 7.5" and 8.8" D/S are the same length.

how hard would it be to shorten the drive shaft? if professional mechanic was doing it? wonder how hard would it be to changed tranny engine and rear end? how much would be reasonable price for all this work?

just the fact i would be getting all the parts from the lsc for 300 is hard to pass up.

Nope.. The LSC has a longer wheel base than the Birds... its too long.
