Getting more out of my 289

Right now I am running a stock bottom end 289 with a 4 spd. manual the following bolt ons:

Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake
Holley 600 CFM carb w/ vacuum secondaries
Heddman Headers, full length
MSD 6ALN ignition
Accel coil and wires

Right now the motor runs nice and has plenty of bottom end but I know I need a cam to get this thing to rev like I want it. It just doesnt seem to have any balls past 4k rpm. Another thing is, I am doing a fullwidth axle swap on my bronco II and have no use for the axles and gears for it any more. I have 3.73's in it, it uses the 7.5" rear end, just leaf sprung. I was thinking about just swapping the gears in for cheap then doing a TC rear end later on. Pushing the car as hard as I can with the 2.73 gears in it right now my best time has been a 15.9, that is slow. Hell, my buddies grand cherokee is faster than me. Either way, what can I look for, as far as performance gains go from changing my cam and rear end. I was thinking the edelbrock performer rpm cam, any input guys?

with this edelbrock cam #EDL-2221 on summit with trickflow TW heads # TFS-51400002    you would be pushing about 452hp @ 6500 and 380tq @ 5500 at the crank, with the gears i dunno but you will notice a huge difference

It's Gumby's fault.

by the way......the reason your car has no balls is because you did small horsepower stuff to it..... heads and cam are where you make most of your power besides all the rest of the do-dah stuff (bore and stroke, compression, blagh you get the idea)

Also one of the most over looked things to do to a motor is the timing advance in the distributor. Most people think just advancing the timing is all that is needed.
Were u realy need to fine tune when and how much timing advance is needed to make the best with what u have.

welp, head work would be nice right now but a college student budget says no. Plus I am working on a fullwidth axle swap on my bronco II. either way the timing has been taken care of, it doesnt like unleaded for the most part.

the 289 is from a 65 galaxie put has new pistons

It drives really nice, it'll bury my TC gauges which go up to 95 considering it only has a 4 spd isnt too bad. but thanks for the input guys...

btw. if i said someting dumb or not reasonable, im wasted as $hit, its grandprix weekedn up at purdue, god ahh!
