Need some 2.3t help in here!!

Well guys I got my dads car running pretty good, new I/C couplers, etc. Well I was headed down the highway 2 weeks ago, downshifted, and she shut off on me. Finally got her into school, ripped 5 inches of teeth from the timing belt. No biggy, 6 hours later its got a new timing belt and v/c gasket. Now I mad a boo boo(yes im a dumbass) I hooked the battery charger at 2amps trickle charge up to the battery BACKWARDS in haste to get the car done. Normally I wouldnt rush, but I was NOT suppose to do a timing belt, the teachers cut me a break since the past months have been very bad on me and my family, and I had alot of help from my classmates thank god. Now I get no start. So far I know I have spark into the distrubutor, and fuel. All fuses are good as well. Today Im gonna check for spark at the plugs, and make sure I ahev the fireing order correct. I lined up the crank pulley to TC and the cam to the pointer on the cover. I MIGHT be a tooth or 2 off, but I figure I should get some sort of fire no? Its doing NOTHING but crank. I need some ideas on what to check next like TFI, etc. Thanks guys, the past 3 months have been hard, had 3 deaths in the family, my dad got laid off, I broke the car (YES I PAID FOR ALL REPAIR PARTS, AND took full responsibility so no one please give me shiznit), and its just not been fun. Any help is greatly apperciated.

first of all sorry to hear about the deaths in your family,  now lets get down to business here.  when I set a timing belt I turn the cam clockwise one notch on the pointers past where I want it to sit this way when you spring the tentioner it pulls it right where you want it.  after I set the cam I let the tentioner loose and tighten it down then I take a ratchet and a socket and rotate the engine 2 complete revolutions of the cam shaft by turning from the crankshaft. note that if you try doing this from the cam you WILL strip teeth from the belt.  after rotating the engine your timing pointers should be lined up.  also take note that your distributor is also ran off of the timing belt and can be thrown off while the belt is off. last of all double check your work.

Turned the distrubutor a lot and got it running drove it back to my apt. Now im gonna have to try and re set the cam timing. I hope I have enough tools here to do it. Then I gotta try about getting a timing light and setting the timing. Glad I got a response now I know which way to turn the cam. Now I turned the distributor counterclockwise to get it to start, its sitting right over the hold down bolt, you can see half the head. How many teeth off am I??
Thanks so much guys!!

i jumped it a tooth advance but its no were close still. of course I cant get a god  timing light on rent a tool, so I got to hope my school can seem to find one and let me use it. Gonna try and get a socket the right size for the crank pulley, so i can turn it to TC then try to see how far out the cam is, then set the cam timing. That stupid tensioner is a PAIN IN MY ASS without the right tool but I got it down now. I gotta get this thing running decent so I can give it back to my dad and let it be HIS issue. But right now, its not right, and of course its a pain in my ASS. Its also puking out MORE oil then it used to now that the V/C is sealed up.. WONDERFUL!!  Bah..

You can all poke fun, and what not. IDK how I did it, but I had the firing order backwards, and the cam 1 tooth and 180 degrees OUT, and it RAN!! I got it up to TC, and spun the cam around, put new plugs in it, bought a timing light, fired it up set it to 10 advance and it ran ok but hesitated. Bumped it to 12 advance, and it ran good but i heard some detonation on the way to get a distrubtor wrench, so I reset it to 11, and tightened for the distubutor, and MAN does she RUN. Stock boost gauge says 11 PSI, and it runs pretty decent now. Water pump started puking out the weep hole, and it needs two plug wires so thats what im about to do now. Gonna try and stop the oil leak too cause i want to get it reliable for now for my dad to run back and forth to work. Motor is tired and starting to have some knock/clatter but theres nothing I can do about it other then try and stop the oil. I gotta get the other motor and start prepping it cause its gonna need it soon. Gonna start porting the upper and lower intake, might port the head myself or send it out. Gonna build it right the first time, and do it the right way. Thanks to everyone on here, without you guys id be in deep shiznit.

not poking fun, you know it ran because your cam was really not 180 out its impossible with the cam turning 1 revolution to every 2 of the crank shaft. I'm glad you got it running and glad I could help.  how many miles are on this car?

Now that I think about it that makes sense. Car has almost 161k, motor god only knows how many are on it.
