Advance Auto Remans.

I was wondering if anyone has any good or bad experiences with reman transmissions from Advance Auto. I bought a 96 Explorer for $500 but it needs a tranny. I can get a reman from jasper for $1900 with a 3 year 100,000 mile waranty. Advance Auto has one for $1500 with a 3 year unlimited mile waranty. What do yall suggest?

i have no experience with rebuilt transmissions from anywhere personally but my buddies dad had a rebuilt jasper trans put in his bravada and it didnt last 2 years. this didnt include the transfer case. the one in his towncar(also jasper) lasted less than 2. he drives alot for his job but definately isnt one to beat on a car or miss getting it serviced. he drives slow as dirt but its mostly city driving.
i dont recall where the transmissions were purchased and put in but they were both jasper remans.
im willing to bet they are both rebuilt by the same people(company) with the same kit and just sold thru different fronts.
, i thought you could only get a year warranty on rebuilt trannies.
does this include the transfer case also?

and its likely why they are in the junkyard, that or a blown motor.

Nope no transfer case.
Explorers are known for py trannys. Thats why Im staying away from a used tranny and plus I want a warranty.

oh i know, i work at a ford dealer, work on them  trannys all the time, just saying, that could be an alternative, you don't even wanna know how much a new tranny is from ford.

If you can, find a local guy that rebuild auto trans, or even check out a performance auto trans specialist.
Course, if you need the vehicle ASAP, this is a moot point, but just sayin'.
Also, some salvage yards will give a guarantee on drivetrain parts, but then again...never know what you're gonna get with a j/y part.

I know several people who have used Jasper rebuilt engines and transmissions and for the most part they are good pieces.  Not sure about the Advance Auto ones though.

However I would have to agree with FordTruckFreeek. If I were to have my tranny go out, I would have some local guys who are awesome on trannies just rebuilt it the way I wanted.  But dpending on your area, finding a good tranny shop is hard sometimes as well.

most from j/y only come with a 30-90 day warr...once and awhile you may find a rebuilt one, or a low mileage one. best bet is to take it to a local shop and have them rebuild it.

Thanks for the input guys. I think that Im going to have a local shop rebuild it for me. I bought the explorer from a freind that owns a shop. Some guy just lift it there with a title because it needed a tranny. Anyway a freind of his owns a transmission shop next door. He qouted me $1600 if it needed any hard parts. If not he said it could be a couple hunderd less. And hes going to flush the cooler and supply a converter also. I wanted a reman for the warranty but I think that he'll do a better job and he offers a two year 50k mile.
