Now they just need to pull out the stops and make an ecoboost V8.  I want the power and torque of a V10 with the gas mileage of a V8.  lol.

They should make a Ecoboost V8 for the GT500 ;) By by supercharger hello "environmentally friendly" Ecoboost.

Bah, Never would have been a 3.4 without the 3.0.

I owned a 3.0 and a 3.4 car. The 3.0 was definitely better:iagree:

They can't stop making the Ranger, there are too many sold. This 4 cyl ecoboost/3.0 diesel sounds like a good plan...and diesel Ranger just makes good sense. You would torque for limited towing capability combined with hellacious gas mileage. I would buy one for a daily driver! They need to change it up though, I'm pretty sure the current Ranger is still based off the original design from like...1983.

You missed a big point in the other post. The diesel engine is for INTERNATIONAL markets (read: NOT US) only. It's highly unlikely a small diesel p/u will make it to the states. "Diesel" still has a bad name here in the US (especially with the target audience for a small p/u), so it's a tough sell for the manufacturer...and it's a more $$$ option. The fuel economy saved over a gas engine takes about 5 years to break even, and for many people, they don't even keep the vehicle that long (unlike we fellow Fox Cat/Bird afficinados :burnout:).

I had heard musings of the F-100 being revived on a smaller platform (Dakota-sized perhaps) to take the place of the Ranger. Not sure if that's stil got any traction...

I just want to be able to get a V8 in my full sized truck...I just can't stand the sound of those V6s in a full-size p/u!

To be honest Ford really should have made the SVT Taurus SHO they had talked about when the Gen III was dropping. 6 Speed Turboed or Supercharged 3.4 V8. Now THAT is a sheetcake full of victory and more than likely would have redeemed the Gen III (Except for the stupid Cam failure prob.)

Well someone is going to try a diesel in a compact truck for the US market...

I think that truck buyers definately want diesels no matter what size truck.  And don't forget Ford did make a diesel ranger back in the 80's.  (not sure how successful they were...but they were made).
