Guess Im just lucky

As of Monday, I am the legal owner of my 1991 SHO Plus. Getting there wasnt so easy, but quite humorous.

Before the SHO I had been pulled over 3 times (got let go once) and had 2 tickets (accident and speeding).

I drove the SHO with no front plate from the end of June until Sep 20th with no issues. Well the plate I did have expired in Aug. I got pulled over for no front tag, and got a ticket for expired tag(s). Court 10/20/09. So that means I have to get everything in order before then.

I got paid Friday 10/16, went and paid off the car, got my inspection, ran out of time to finish anything else. My GF was in town from school (2hrs away) so we went to Six Flags for Fright Fest since we had passes. Stop by our friends new place on the way home, leave around 3-3:15 AM. I see this pair of headlights in the mirror for a few miles and they hold their distance. So I switch lanes to see if they follow. They do, then speed up... and then switch lanes and hit the exit. It was a cop like I suspected. Drive another 4-5 miles, look in the mirror and here come headlights flying at me and then the cherries come on.

He got off the exit, sat, then came right back on the highway. I explain to him the situation, give him the other ticket and that it will all be done Monday because court is Tuesday I just had to wait to get paid. Lets me go.

Sunday, GF is leaving to go back to school so I take her to lunch. Trooper is merging onto the highway, I let him over infront of me and I see him look up in his mirror. I am in the slow lane and he switches over 2 more lanes to the left, slows down, checks my rear plate state and gets over. I saw him reach for his hat and hit the blinker before he even got his lights going. Explain it again, he gives me a ticket for expired tags. Then warnings for: No front tag, no insurance on car, title not being filled out, and no inspection (which I did have).

Monday, I leave from school, still getting the run around on insurance. Check State Farm (who I had with my parents), they wont take me PLUS they rape. Go to my Grams and get Geico on line. Run home for tax papers, run to DMV, make it there at 4:55, get my tags, and IM LEGAL!!! NO MORE STOPS!!!

6:00 PM Im headed to my other Grams to cut their grass. Get pulled over for no front tag. I didnt have screws obviously, which is where I was headed after cutting grass. I hand her all my paper work, explain why its on the dash and that they are only about an hour old. She comes back and tells me she has never seen such a nice Taurus :rollin: . Then tells me she have never pulled anyone over that was as organized as me (all while I have clothes thrown all over the car). Told her I had a little practice with this sort of thing...

All I can do is laugh the rest of the night. Until the neighbors dog bites me while Im cutting the grass. Pain fades, and so was my daylight so I knocked on the door and asked them to bring the dog inside. Took about 1 minute total. Get back to the house and my Aunt has 911 on the phone, police, ambulance, and animal control are in route. Skin didnt even break, I wasnt worried about it at all. Owner finally come home, she takes pics of it, then tells my the rabies shot was up last month. Not sure what to do now....

Dropped off my first ticket with my buddy's Dad who works in the local courts and he is going to try to get me off on just court cost.

Im not complaining at all, I was doing something wrong so I got what I deserved. Its just like sometimes you cant get ahead. In the last 4 months I have gotten stopped more times and more tickets with my average old 4 door sedan, than I was in the 4 years I drove the loud, mis-matched, old Cougar.

It has become humorous to me at this point. Now I just have to come up with $83 for my Trooper ticket.

Sounds like when I had my 91 SHO, what is it with those things and cops? Mine was a gold one too, hardly what I would call a cop magnet.

The problem is that the cars have been out for so long, the police know their reputation for power, and apparently, they watch out for them so that you don't think you're a "sleeper".  :D

Lol, I wish that was the truth. Compared to today's standard its average. I do love the fact that my 18 year old mid-size family sedan is just an ugly old Taurus to most people. It feels fast... but it isnt.

I haven't gotten pulled over when I wasn't doing something wrong, well most of the time. I drove on a suspended license from the time I was 16 to 20, and I never got harassed, and there was some sort of glitch in the system that made it so it didn't show up on my driving record.

I have also gotten lucky. I once got pulled over going way over 45 in a 45 zone, and ended up with a no change of address ticket. I was driving on a suspended license. I used to brag about how fast I had driven my cars, and how often I had gotten away with it. Now I don't. I try to take it as a learning experience. I have done things that could have gotten someone killed.

After having to pay almost $3000 to get my license back that I didn't even know I lost, I'm alot more careful and take care of things if and when they happen. That is experience and the difference between someone who's just left home, and someone who has had there own home for a while, and it making it on there own.

I haven't been pulled over for nearly 3 years, I also do not speed or do stupid things anymore. Alot of things I thought were just fun, are now stupid.

Don't take any of that the wrong way, I am just trying to share what I have learned the hard way, so hopefully you don't have to.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Im not one to do stupid shiznit anymore. Im glad when I did it was in the Cougar and it was slow. If I mess up Im screwed. I dont have anything for anyone to sue me for, neither does my family so I just try not to do anything wrong. This whole situation was not something I had a lot of control over but its done and over now. Just trying to stay positive so when I mail off that $83 check it doesnt hurt as bad...
