TC as a Demo Derby car! October 16, 2005, 09:18:48 AM Everyone,Last night my family and I went to a nearby demo derby (man, I love those things, and they're everywhere around here). Cool part number 1 is, I actually talked my wife into going with me, and even though she won't easily admit it, I did catch her smiling a few times (and my 4-yr old daughter was jumping up and down and screaming, too). Cool part number 2 is, in the second heat, amongst all the huge old Caddies, Chryslers, Lincolns, and what nots, out came an '87/'88 TC. My first thought was, cool, a TC. You couldn't even hear him running as he passed, where all the other cars were loud as heck. May have still had the 2.3 in it? The second thought was, oh , a TC. He's gonna get killed. The only unibody out there, with probably a good 500 to 1000 pound handicap. Turns out, he could just barely push his way thru the thick mud anyway, and before he even took a serioushiznit, he broke his flag and just sat there the rest of the heat, getting bumped from time to time but really sustaining no serious damage. At the end of the heat, he cranked it back up and chugged his way out of the mud, with hardly a dent in it. I'm not real sure why he shut it down. I wish I could have taken a digital pic of it. I wasn't sure whether to root for the guy or tell him to get out as fast as possible when he first came out. Last year I did see an '83/'86 Cougar come out with all the big boys, and he did get killed. One hit to the passenger side pretty much peeled the upper part of the doghouse from the floor pan. It was sad. I thought he was very brave to run in that class, and also very stupid. There was a mini class with Fox Mustangs, Cavaliers, K-cars, Gremlins, Escorts, even some foreigners, that he probably should have entered. In that group he'd have been a monster. Aside from that it could have been any '87/'88 T-bird. The one hit I think he took managed to bend up what part, do you think? That's right, the hood.
