Mustang 8.8

I have installed a mustang 8.8 rear. I have installed my cougar 10" drums after finding out from Nick that this was a bolt on swap as I had thought. I have truned the horizontal shocks around because my stock size tires (on turbo coupe wheels) wouldn't clear them. Since I have installed my P275/60R15 (on stock 10 hole wheels) on the back, the one side has made contact wiht the horizontal shock. How or what must I do to clear these shocks? Has any one else had this problem? I was thinking about using a spacer to push the wheels towards the outside edge of the car.

That's what I've been afraid of, too.  I have a mustang 8.8 waiting to get prepped to go into my car.

Those 275/60's are kinda big. Kinda REALLY big :D If you want to run a tire that size on a stock rim you're gonna need to use spacers (bad), get a proper length T-Bird/Cougar axle (good) or do without the quad shocks entirely (like most of the Birds and Cats on the road).

Your only other choices are a different rim with more offset (less backspacing) or  smaller tires

use your stock 7.5 axles in the rear. that will push the wheels out more. or some sn95 axles out of a mustang if ur 5 lug.
trick flow street heat intake , 24lbs injetors, ported GT-40's (Chip) long tube headers. and a Performance Automatic C4, with a hurst shifter!

If I do this, won't the brake drums be out to far to make contact with the brake shoes the correct way? From what I have read in another post, the mustang housing is shorter than the cougar/tbird housing.

Blown306Cougar,

Do you have any trouble rubbing on the inside of the wheel well? My brother had the same size tires on his t-bird with a mustang 8.8 and rubbed on the inside of the wheel well. I don't remember what backspacing his draglites were but they were 10" wide.

Also I have seen in your signature that you are running a f150 s spring for the t-loc or the f150 t-loc. If you are running the f150 t-loc, are there any advantages? I have to put new clutches in my t-loc because the ears are broken off. The IDIOT that I have bought the rear from had told me that the ears are made to break off. I know that these ears are there to keep the clutches from spinning so that the t-loc works. I'm thing about putting an extra cluth in each side of my t-loc. I've read this is supposed to make the t-loc work better because it is tighter.

Thanks for your help. It is greatly appreciated,
Larry

I've heard that if you put some decent LCA on it you don't need the quad shocks, cuz they're there to control wheel hop. some CHE control arms should do the trick :D

a long time ago i used to get some tire rub on the inside. but never any damage at all to the tires..and only happend when i turned onto deep driveway appr0ns.. and only happend on the inside not the outside. but does'nt seem to happen much anymore.. i can't remember the last time they rubbed. i guess all the undercoating is worn away lol.. now  about the F150 diff well it's alot beefer diff.. ie 31 spline VS 28 spline stock.. and i had an extra clutch disc add to the posi to make it tighter... "old trick".. and as far as the F150 diff bolting in the stock 8.8. it is for a 8.8 just for a F150 and it comes stock with 31 spline..

Nope!!!

the car never had wheel hop.even before i did the LCA's and the A/Body uppers..

it just used to make huge and longS's down the street :rollin:
on all motor.. meaning with out the blower..

Billy "mercoug302" :rollin:can verify that one ;)
