Boost leak through EGR

Put the homemade pressure tester on the throttle body earlier and pumped it up... It would only go to about 15 psi and lost that quickly.

Quickly discovered it was all going out the EGR tube. The diaphragm is intact, the whole valve looks good. If I push the diaphragm and open the valve it loses the pressure much faster, like instantly. It almost seems as if the valve is stuck open slightly. I took it off and tried cleaning it out with brake cleaner but its no better.

Any similar problems? Dont really wanna delete EGR as from what I read it helps gas mileage which is very important to me.

I've had the same issue before.  I replaced it in one car with a brand new one that didn't leak, and I've also replaced one on a different car with a brand new unit that DID leak.  If you get a new one and it still leaks, take the SOB back.  If its leaking pressure, it is leaking exhaust into the intake as well when it shouldn't be!

Shopping around... Advance and Oreilly have identical parts in their stock. "EGR1182" by BWD.

Advance wants $96.89


Oreilly.... $38.99.


Same part, same number. What gives??? Rockauto has a Standard part for about $35 shipped but I think Ill save the time and get it from Oreilly.

i am running with out an egr on the tc, and get 24mpg. Dont know what your getting with it.

24 is exactly what Ive been averaging lately. Before I would get 28 or more.

Oreilly is supposed to have the part in tomorrow...

Cut a peice of pen 15e can and use it to block the EGR off

New valve is on. I took out that check valve that was on the vac line going to it, when its on there the valve gets stuck open.

It seems like all my high idle issues are gone, the car gets decel fuel cut when it should, and my average mpg on the tripminder has gone up by two mpg in like 50 miles of driving.

I see no reason to remove egr on my daily driver.

Yep, no reason to remove it at all really if you are able to keep it.
