What is FE? September 22, 2009, 02:15:44 PM What are FE parts? How can I identify them, and why do people want them. The reason I ask is that I have a 289/302 4bbl intake off a 68 mustang, that I no longer need, and I'm wondering what I should sell it for. any help would be appreciated. Thanks.C8ZE-9425-A 7M27 Quote Selected
What is FE? Reply #1 – September 22, 2009, 02:27:17 PM FE "Ford Edsel" engines are from '58-'76. The come in the following displacements: 317, 341, 368, 332,352,390,406,410,427, and 428. The intake that you have will not work on these motors. Quote Selected
What is FE? Reply #2 – September 22, 2009, 03:54:06 PM 289/302 is part of the same family. FE engines have nothing in common with the 289/302.You are all good. Quote Selected

The intake that you have will not work on these motors. The 317, 341, & 368 ARE NOT part of the FE family...Actual displacements are 332, 352, 360 & 361(same bore & stroke), 390 & 391(again same B&S), 406, 410(Mercury only), 427 & 428...The 317, 341 & 368 are part of the Big "Y" block family, NO parts interchange with a FE... The FE were built from '58-'76, the 317, was first used in Lincolns in early 50s the 341 in '55 & 368 in '57... May not have the dates exactly correct but all three defiantly preceded the FE... What is FE? Reply #10 – September 23, 2009, 06:26:13 PM Quote from: 86XR7project;292320IIRC the truck versions of the FEs were called FT blocks (Ford Truck)That's correct, those had a steel crank and had the rated 361 & 391 displacement... I probably should have mentioned the FT was a off shoot of the FE...The 361 of '58 was a Edsel engine, wasn't used in any Ford, don't think the Mercs used it that early(hence the FE)... The later 360 was a P/U engine...BTW the MEL series that came out in '58 stood for Mercury Edsel Lincoln... I believe the smallest was a 383(Mercs & Edsel) with the Lincolns getting a 430.. It was eventually upped to 462 prior to being dropped in '68 for the 460... For '60 the T-birds had a NASCAR option of the 430 with a three speed tranny... Was the only year a MEL was available in a Ford... '60 was also the first year for a Hi Po FE... The 352 was fitted with a mechanical cam, aluminum intake and header type exhaust manifolds... Rated at 360Hp, not many were produced, it's extremely rare these days... '61 brought 390s from 300Hp to 401Hp Hi Po units with three 2bbl carbs... Also was a 375Hp 4bbl version as well as a 335Hp Police Interceptor, all three had mechanical camshafts... To throw the fuel to the Ford vs Chevy wars, in Late '61 Chevy built a hand full(175 or so comes to mind) of the 409 "Bubble Top" Belair's... Ford answered with two Hi Po 406s, one with a 4bbl(385Hp) the other a 405Hp three deuce mill... The 406 was avail till mid 63, when the 63 1/3 Galaxie Fastbacks were introduced in Jan '63... Also introduced with the fastbacks, was the famed 427 with a single 4bbl rated at 410Hp, and dual quads at 425Hp... Ford promptly cleaned house at the '63 Daytona 500, taking the first five finishes... Quote Selected
