New Hot Rod Magazine

I was looking through the coverage of the Hot Rod Power Tour, on page 45 there's a photo of the staging lanes at Union Grove WI.: My car is in the center with the hood up.  While it's not close to a feature, it's great to see a glimpse of it in Hot Rod!

Nice!  I know how you feel, I was in picture of the coverage last year.  While not a feature, it does make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

Yes, it's the light blue one in the sea of Camaro's!  The Power Tour (by my estimation) is 70% GM 20% Ford and 10% Mopar and "other".  Not that is should deter someone from going, it's just a testament to how popular and prolific GM Muscle cars are.

The Power Tour is a great time and I highly recommend it. There are few tips I have learned over the years:

Register to the latest in January and reserve your accomoations.  This will give you a great choice of hotels/motels and keep you close to the venue (you could end up 20+ miles away or without if you try to do it late).

Skip the drivers meetings and leave an hour before the meeting.  The first year I went, it took an hour to get out of the parking lot and I was in the first 1/2 of the group!

Seek alternate routes.  The Official route will take you on two lane roads and through small towns, which are great and scenic.  However, imagine 3-4,000 carshiznitting a three stop light town, it could take hours to get through.  On one tour it took 8 hours to go less than 200 miles.  We were whipped!

Conider taking the highway for the fast route to the next venure.  Usually this is a 3-4 hour trip.  This allows you to arrive fresh and to partite in the activities like: Autocross, Drag Racing, Chassis dyno, plus you get to see the other cars come in and meet and talk to people.  If you get there by 2 PM you can have a great time (as opposed to 6-7PM when everything is done and people are leaving).

Consider where it starts and ends.  It may start close, but ends a two drive from home.  Plan time off accordingly.

That's exactly what I was looking for....thanks!!

BTW...just checked my HRM...you are certainly swallowed up by GMs.  The wife asked what we would drive...I said "The Thunderchicken!!".  She looked at my goofy since she does not consider it a sportscar.  I'll show her your car, the 340 Dodge van, etc, etc and see of that changes her mind.

People on the tour are intrigued with cars that are different.  There were few fox T-birds or Cougars in the mix.  In fact the first fox Bird I saw was in Mt. Clemons.  It was Cam's 86 Elan, a blue vent window car from Canada.  We parked together.  Having two blue 86's side by side was an attention getter!

Yeah...really...how many '69 Camaros and Chevelles can you look at.  Hopefully next year there will be a dark grey '88 'bird to park beside you.
