Taking my daughter for her drivers liscence test.

Wish us luck guys! We have to be at the DMV at 12:15 this afternoon for her test, it's the driving part so if she passes she gets her liscence. I think I'm more nervous for her than she is. At least it's not like when I took mine, I had a state trooper riding with me, so it shouldn't be too bad for her.

Thanks, I think you're right about that. I think I'm still going to drive with her for a while even if she passes before I let her go off on her own. I keep telling her it's alot of responcability when you're driving, hopefully it sinks in. I'm going to be a nervous reck the first time she goes off on her own!

I didn't get mine till 1 month after my b-day, and ended up getting a 25 over in a 25 about 500 feet from my house.

I brought my little sister to the store, and while I was pulling out she made fun of how slow I was going, so I floored it till 35 mph and then let off. I guess the speedo was off...

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Oh no! She won't be driving the Bird for along time! She too afraid to drive it anyhow, I'm too particular with it.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. We just got back, we had to wait 2 hours for them to get to her. She didn't pass the paralel parking, so we got to go back. We're going to try again next week if we can get an appointment. The bad thing is it's my fault, I had her backing in driver's side first, so I had her doing it backwards. I think I got thrown off with how we pull into my driveway. We'll get it right next time, I'm sure she would've passed if not for that. I'm an idiot!!

I'm so confused...here they just need 80/100 points? Parallel parking is only like 6 of those 100. Perhaps that explains all the bad drivers around here. Even worse, we have to deal with bicyclists that do whatever they want in the downtown area. Running red lights, going up on the sidewalk when it works for them, going 3mph when they're in no hurry, in the middle of the road...

She had to have missed more than just parking. I don't think any place requires perfection.

I don't know about the points system, they do have to have 50hrs. of driving time before they test for thier liscence. They even have to wait 6 months after getting thier permit to take the driving test. Then I as a parent have to sign a dospoogeent saying they had enough seat time. But the first thing they do is have you parallel park, if you do it correctly they have you drive down the road a few miles and back. When Ashley parked she was too far from the curb, the instructor even got out of the car and looked to see if the driver's side of the car would be off the road enough, trying to give her the benifit of the doubt. But she was out to far. So they didn't go any farther then that. She'll get it next time.

Wow - here I've always heard of people having their parallel parking between cones when they got BACK from the drive. The hours and not being able to have people other than family (or perhaps people under a certain age?) in the car until 18 or something is another requirement/restriction. They've changed things a bit since I got my license though.

She's going to be 18 in october, I don't think kids are mature enough at 16 for that kind of responsability, in some case they are but.... She's had her permit for a over a year now, I had to renew it for her just a $5 fee, her Mom and I are divorced and I only get her on weekends. Her mom and stepfather won't take her driving so it's been up to me and my girlfriend to take her. I though she should've had them last fall but she wasn't ready, so I'm hoping she'll be a better driver since she's waited so long to get them.

Things have changed alot since I got mine too. They had a course behind the building that you drove on. I didn't have to parallel, I had to do a 3 point turn then drive the course. that was it.
