interested in Charging 87 cougar.

was on my mind all day.

how hard would it be to supercharge my V8 cougar?

anyone have an average price? new/used
advice?

Well nothing is really a "bolt on". First off you would need to convert to MAF. Second your engine is realy not set up for boost. The pistons are cast and the heads/intake/exhaust suck. All of those things need to be up-graded before you think about a blower.

Years back someone on here had a super charger on a basically stock 5.0 SO, didn't run any better than a HO without a SC...

i been wanting to do it to my v6  I have heard about electric superchargers that are under $1000 but I don't know anyhting about them really. You might want to look those up. If you decide to put a blower on though, make sure you get you exhaust upgraded with bigger pipes/duals and/or headers first or you'll probably negate the point anyway.

Electric supercharger=electric turbo.  You might as well put a whistler in the tailpipe, because thats about how much performance you would gain.

I would look at upgrading internals first, getting the compression ratio right, and then look at some mustang kits for Fox bodies.  You *could* do a single turbo setup too, its all up to how far you want to take it.

Keep reading up or talking to people to improve your understanding on everything. You "could" throw a supercharger on the car but ~9psi will only get you up to around Mustang power levels while needing some special work done to try to work around the MANY limitations of the EEC. You have a speed density computer that relies on vacuum. You have 14lb fuel injectors that the EEC also relies on. The system would need a tune to get it to even drive down the road fairly. You have parts that will not run well with a supercharger as they are severely restricted and the supercharger can't force the air effectively. You will likely be into it for $1500 for a USED supercharger and probably double that in order to get the bare minimum in other necessary parts such as the fuel injectors, fuel pump, tune, and so on. The entire thing could be dirt cheap for used parts bolted on or you can spend the same price as you would on the entire supercharger installation on fresh machine work, fresh heads, etc. This is the route everyone goes to begin with as it is the most bang for the buck and fuel economy suffers in no way other than by your right foot's weight.

Attempting to install a supercharger on one of these stock motors is more than even experienced people would want to deal with. There are headaches and it just isn't a smart thing to even do. The stock 5.0's in these cars make 2/3 the power of the Mustangs (many think they are the same). Fix that before attempting to make any major modifications.

The 3.8's on the other hand - they blow headgaskets stock. The later supercharged ones were modified a little to aid in this. You would need to fix these faults before even considering forced induction. By now the surfaces will have some bad pitting in places anyways and the gaskets are old.
