Tripminder, $40 shipped !!

This is the type with the Trip, Fuel, Economy, and Time, not just the plain clock. I'm not making any money, just thought I might be able to help someone find one. I hate to see it go to waste in the local pick yard. $40 shipped...

I do take paypal, and Tbird232ci is correct. The mounting holes are different than my 87. My wiring harness is also different, which is the reason I posted pic of the harness on the back. Mine is considerably smaller. You might pull your dash cover to be sure...I don't want to mislead anyone.

Can i use the brackets off of my old clock?
Also will the harness work if i wire it directly as described in the tech section?
There should be a harness tucked in my dash somewhere isn't there?

Let me look through the tech section tonight. I'm not sure as I hadn't planned on finding one, or using one myself. I just got to work, and will be busy for a couple hours, but will be back on soon and will check it out.

Maybe someone else has the experience in the meantime.

Yes, you can use your existing clock's brackets, but you must be VERY careful when installing them. The insides of the tripminder are almost as big as the outsides, so if you screw the brackets to the body you WILL destroy the tripminder. Shawn can testify to this.

You can disassemble the tripminder and use tiny machine screws to hold the brackets on - you must insert them from the inside of the tripminder and put the nuts on the outside. Either that or you can epoxy the brackets on and not use any screws at all.

You might have the harness (behind the glove box door) or you might not. There seems to be no pattern to which cars got it and which cars didn't, and even some cars that have it do not have the fuel flow wire. In this case you'll have to tap into the fuel flow wire at pin #34 at the EEC-IV computer and run a wire to the center of the dash. Regardless, if you can install a stereo you can install the tripminder.

Here's the down and dirty on the tripminder install (and you should read the whole thing, as there's snippets of important info peppered throughout the thread):

dominator, looks as though you can use the brackets from the old clock, but wouldn't be a good idea to screw them on. Should probably use Epoxy or something like that. Tbird232ci had quite a bit of trouble, and I can understand why he would warn to be cautious and look everything over before jumping in. I appreciate the concern and I also would like to be sure this will work for you. Only problem, I really don't have the experience to know exactly what all is involved (one of the reasons I didn't have plans on using one).

The tech article was very well written and everything looked like it would be simple, but I don't know about your harness under the dash. You will have a plug, obviously, on the back of your clock, but it is likely different than the one on the tripminder. When I followed the harness under the dash to disconnect, it didn't have a plug at the other end, It was wired directly into the main harness so I had to cut it back about a foot (shown in the pic's with the end cut).

I'm editing...I looked over the sticky for the tripminder install, and it seems like with some effort, it will work. I'm sending PM, this is getting long.

Dominator, if you really want to, pick up his tripminder, and we might be able to work something out to where i convert it over for you or something like that
