PIP Sensor change

I think I need to change my PIP sensor as I have idle, emmision and drivability issues with no codes. Can I change it without pulling the dizzy?

Thanks

could you be more specific about your drivability issues, or even what car you have :P
with reguards to your question, yes you can.
as it turns out, this was actually just discussed in the thread below.

Unlikely it's your pip module(almost impossible),egr and timing sound more like it,possibly bad o2's as well.

If it's running OK, the PIP ain't your problem...

It stalls after starting. After restart the idle is hunting, engine runns rough. Stalls when put into gear if not hot and has a bog under acceleration. Exhaust stinks and smells rich. It's had new O2 sensors, TPS, full exhaust incl new cats, tune up, fuel & air filters. My sister used to drive it and it ran py the last few years. I don't get any codes or Check Engine Light. I didn't get into it before as she refused to give the car basic service let alone address the driability issues. All this while she worked at an auto repair shop. Now that it's mine I'd like to bring it back to it's former glory.

Why is a bad PIP almost impossible ? I've replaced many bad pick up modules over the years in all makes of cars. I also replaced the IAC last year. Should I remove the EGR and check for carbon build up ? I might have done that last year but don't remember.

Sorry about that. It's an 88 5.0 Sport AOD  with about 77k NYC miles on it.

If you have a bad PIp the car will either:
1. Stall
2. Not start at all

I had a bad PIP on my 95 T-bird. Trust me it would stall all the time and not start up for awhile after it stalled till it cooled down.

that isnt necessarily true, atleast for me it wasnt. the symptoms he descibed are similar to what i had before i changed my PIP sensor out, except for the stalling that is. the only other thing that i have had to deal with that gave similar problems was the egr/heat riser thingy acting up. all i can suggest to figure that out would be to take it off for a quick run and see if it runs better(but alot louder:mullet:), but not too long.
i was still able to drive mine short distances(untill it became heatsoaked) before it became too ruff to drive with. having a delivery job at the time didnt help.
popping the hood to let it cool down helped me get on my way pretty quickly.
doesnt exactly mean thats his problem though since i was able to pull the trouble codes from mine to better determine it.
he has a efi 5.0, honestly im not familiar with them or the quirks they have. all i can suggest is to clean the ACT sensor off and see if it runs any better.

If the PIP is bad enough to cause the issue you describe, it should no doubt have an erratic iginition code...
