Orifice Tube June 21, 2009, 02:52:29 AM Anyone ever replaced one? When I got my coug, it had a sized compressor. I swapped it out for a known good used unit. It would build pressure and then over pressure and click off (per my valves). My suspicion is the old compressor screwed the pooch and shot crud all into the orifice tube, plugging it up. Autozone sells an orifice tube kit. It appears to come with two compression fittings, a piece of tube, and a new Orifice tube. I know the dang thing is located in the lower ac liquid line running along the passenger chassis leg. Since I have the engine out, I feel this would be a good time to do it. So, if you have used that kit. Did it work or did it leak like all hell? Can I get the whole liquid line from somewhere?Found that rock auto has the assembly for about $30. Should I try back flushing the orifice tube or is that a waste of time? Thanks,DZ Quote Selected
Orifice Tube Reply #1 – June 21, 2009, 02:33:42 PM If you disconnect both ends of the line sometimes you can blow the back out of the orifice tube with low pressure compressed air <50 psi or it can break the orifice tube. Quote Selected
Orifice Tube Reply #2 – June 21, 2009, 10:13:29 PM Just replace the line. The amount of R134 loss will cost more than the line. Just 2 cents Quote Selected
Orifice Tube Reply #3 – June 21, 2009, 10:58:53 PM Oreilly's or autozone should have the whole liquid line with orfice tube. I have installed one in my TC with no problems. also since you will have the system open you should replace your accumulator as it could be clogged up as well. Quote Selected
Orifice Tube Reply #4 – June 22, 2009, 12:57:20 AM AZ didn't have it. Advance has them on clearance. I plan on picking one up tomorrow if they can get one. I will get it from Rock Auto if Advance can't get one. For now I will brag about my freshly painted engine bay. Why does Ford poke all those holes in the shock towers? There are way more holes than there are things to bolt to them. Quote Selected
