Broken Camshaft

My sons 3.8 86 Cougar broke the camshaft behind the 1st cam bearing. Is this a interference or noninterference engine? I don't want to pull the heads if it not necessary. I'm not going to put alot of money into this engine because it has 325,000 miles on it. I just want it running so it can be sold or traded.

noninterference

the pistons are so dished out , it would take an act of god to crash it.

however,,,, just the idea of a cfi 3.8 crashing a cam makes me suggest you step back and ask why before you waste time.

3.8's are a dime a dozen, a cam is about 120bux.  engine could be had for just about the same price.
