Inner Tie Rod Replacement May 20, 2009, 11:44:53 PM Hello,Anybody ever do an inner tie rod on a fox cougar? This 85 XR-7 has a bent one. I am debating on replacing the bent tie rod, or just replacing the whole rack. Tie rod is $24, Rack with new tie rods is $75, plus $30 for ends. Is an inner (on the passenger side) difficult to do? Inner Tie Rod Replacement Reply #1 – May 21, 2009, 09:17:07 AM Don't fret inner tie rods are easy. Just jack it up remove the wheel, Then unscrew the inner tie rod from the outer tie rod. Then unscrew it from the Rack. They make a tool to do this. I was able to get it done with a big wrench. There is a set pin not to worry it comes out as you turn the end off the rack. All is well and make sure you get an alignment when you are done. Stuckman Quote Selected
Inner Tie Rod Replacement Reply #2 – May 24, 2009, 10:18:54 PM Easy as pie!The roll pin was confusing, I couldn't get it out. I gave up and cranked the tie rod off and the back side of the roll pin just kinda "mushed" off (just kinda flattened over like brass or aluminum would do). Spun it off, spun the new one on, popped in the new pin. Did an eyeball alignment job. Had I not screwed around trying to get that roll pin out, the job would probably have only taken about 30-45 minutes. Pretty easy!Thanks for the encouragement.CoogarXR Quote Selected
