C5 transmission April 21, 2009, 11:03:19 AM What is needed to make a C5 work in a car like ours? I had thought about putting one of these of a T-5 in my car but got a pretty good deal on a C5 that I may buy. Any thoughts? Quote Selected
C5 transmission Reply #1 – April 21, 2009, 11:25:28 AM The C5 is based off the C4 and has the small block Ford bolt pattern. It's a 3-speed, non-overdrive, RWD trans. It was standard equipment on 1983-86 3.8 cars (AOD was optional in 1986 though). Quote Selected
C5 transmission Reply #2 – April 21, 2009, 04:15:29 PM I am running a c5 behind my 302.I used everything from the 3.8,bellhousing,flexplate,starter and torque converter (I would highly suggest NOT using the v6 torque converter).I plan on going with a new C4 ,2000 stall converter, bellhousing and flexplate OR replace c5 valve body with c4 valve body and keeping the c5.this is a 83 tbird I am talking about,so I dont know how much diff. the 86 would be.
