Lucked up on a T5

I traded the Cobra longblock away Tuesday.

I had it listed on Craigslist to get cash for a new trans since the nwc I bought in February turned out to be s.

I got a message from a guy in White House, TN that said he would trade me a 5.0 WC T5 from a '91 Mustang GT with 43,000 miles, Hays clutch, and a Pro 5.0 shifter for the motor. I said ok since it would streamline the process of getting a trans.

Well, it turns out the guy was wrong about 2 of the things he had.

1. It's a Centerforce DF clutch not a Hays

2. The trans didn't come out of a '91 Mustang, it came out of a '93 Cobra. :eek:  :cool:

I also got a T5 yoke, T5 exhaust hanger, and a polyurethane trans mount with it.

I put the trans in today, and it's doing great so far so I'd say I did pretty well on that trade.

WC T5 1352-218
Same as regular 5.0 WC T5, but has a tapered pocket roller bearing in the input shaft and phosphate coated gears.
Rated at 310 ft/lbs, it's the strongest T5 ever put in a fox body. Available only in Mustang Cobra.















Out of curiosity, how much is one of these worth usually?

Its pretty awesome when you get something like that. I love it when you find a deal on a part and the guy who has it has no clue.

I think it's utterly worthless. However, aluminum is up to 50 cents/pound or so, so I'll give you $15 for it :hick:

 those trannys are ultra rare on the used market... The original style pocket bearing running on the mainshaft snout has given lots of problem in std T5s, the Cobra transmission corrects the problem...

I didn't even know either until I ran the numbers, and then I was like O rly?? So I popped the input shaft out and sure enough it was. :hick:

I know, I see the 94-95 Cobra T5s every once in a while, but rarely a '93 the odds of finding one out of a car have to be very small. Btw, another difference in these is that they have a synchronized reverse so no more T5 shuffle.

Here's a pic of the clutch, I don't have a pic of the shifter since it's in the car, but it looks like any other one.

It looks like somebody spilled some black paint on it, but otherwise it's in good shape.

The synchronized reverse isn't exactly a good thing. I picked up a 94-95 5.0 T5 with the synchronized reverse, and even being rebuilt, it doesn't like staying in reverse. It'll pop out on ya and scare you.
It's Gumby's fault.

Did you use just a rebuild kit? Because if it was popping out of reverse it would also need a new shift collar.
