Ever Been In the Mud?

Today leaving my garage was a challenge. I backed out, into the mud and sank right down in. Like the tires were half covered and the car was resting on the unibody type mud.

After I got it unstuck, I hosed the car off good and took it to the inspection place, and got my sticker. It rode fine going down there. After I got home I went to the store to get a coffee, and I all of a sudden am getting a thumping noise. It appears to be constant at all speeds. It appears to go away when I brake, as soon as I let off the brake it comes back.

I know it has something to do with being stuck in the mud. Just thought I would see if anyone else has had a simliar problem. I think its coming from the drivers side, I'm not sure. I'll take a wheel off and look to see if there is anything wrong with the pads or whatnot.

Anyone have any ideas?

You probably have mud on the inside of the wheels...
Also check the driveshaft, sometimes a bog ole gob of mud can get in the yoke, dry up, and become hard or stuck well enough that it wont fly out at speed.

Basically look over anything that rotates...also check the braoke rotors..those little holes around the edge? They can get jammed with mud too..if you were stuck deep enough.

Dude...that blows......did you get a good sticker at least???? And the only thing i can think of is the whole mud in the tires thing like daminc said......

mud off tires wheels and any rotating item with mud will fling onto the underside and make plenty of noise.

Well it was the backyard. We had an unusable garage for many years. We made doors on the opposite side and now its usable. But the backyard is all grass, with the snow melting and all it was muddy.

I'm not sure what the problem ended up being. I looked before washing it but didn't notice and big clumps. I washed the car all around, a lot of dirt and mud came off. I spend a couple hours washing it and looking. I took all four wheels off and looked and put them back on.

I couldn't find any apparent problem. The only thing I can pin it on would be maybe loose lug nuts. I mean I am just finishing doing the v8 swap and the tires were on and off constantly. Its possible, but its all I can think could have been it. Oh well its fixed nonetheless.

I'll bet there was just mud in your tire or possibly your brakes. this would make the tire shake and speed. It sounds like your driving with a bubble in the tire, or a bent rim. I park in the mud almost everyday at work, and have yet to get stuck.

i turned the corner in front of my house and someone in a camaro was right in the middle of the road going WAY to fast. i cut the wheel and ran off in the field. as i was going out into the field, i said "oh shiznit, i'm stuck" and decided to hold it to the floor and turn back toward the road...

made it out and went back to look at the ruts.....

they were about 15 inches deep and there was a rut down the middle where the pumpkin drug through the mud too. to this day i still do not know how i made it.

This year my driveway was really bad when the frost came out. Every time I tried to move the T-Bird in or out of the garage I'd almost get it stuck (if you look at the pics in my "another work bench" thread you can see the mud on the tires). It was even hard to walk in - the top 2" of ground was like a slime, slippery as snot. I'll be needing a tandem load of crusher run this year, I think.

It's not just my driveway, either - the gravel road the cottage is on has become like a water bed. You can stand on it and put your weight on one foot and the ground will push up under the other. It's like there's a few inches of solid ground, then under that it's goo. I dreaded driving the Nissan on it to leave the cottage, and made it a point to not stop, else it would have sunken to the door handles, I'm sure.
